    The Downfall Of Google Health

    Google has discontinued its personal health record service – Google Health. This has analysts from around the industry questioning if PHRs are a workable source of information in their current form. Google Health used to take users’ medical records and bring them online. Users had to make personal profiles and add their medical information manually. This included conditions, medication, allergies, procedures, test results and immunizations. Users also had an option of importing health records from Walgreens and other partners. Good privacy options were available as Google would not share records with anyone unless asked to do so by the user.     Personal health record (PHR) use rising in U.S.

    While the general adoption rate of personal health records (PHR) is still low in the U.S., the health records are catching on despite privacy and other concerns, according to a new study released Tuesday by the California Healthcare Foundation. The results of a survey released today of thousands of users of electronic personal health records nationwide (PHRs) revealed that while the wealthy tend to use them more, it was the poor who derive the greatest benefits from online records. Several companies offer PHR tools.     Healthvault PHR to be available in Germany

    Microsoft has licensed its HealthVault personal health record platform to Siemens in Germany. Siemens, through its IT services and solutions division, will be the exclusive provider of HealthVault in Germany. Germany will be the third country to adopt the PHR technology. A number of US healthcare organisations have been working with the platform, including New York’s Presbyterian Hospital, which has linked it to Microsoft’s Amalga unified intelligence system.     MediConnect buys PassportMD PHR

    Health services provider MediConnect is the new entrant to Personal Health Record business now after it purchased PassportMD for an undisclosed amount. MediConnect is a Utah-based company that retrieves and digitizes health records for insurers, lawyers and medical practices. MediConnect retrieves medical records from doctor’s offices, insurance companies and others, puts them in digital form and sends to law firms and life and health insurance companies. Clients also include services such as Google Health, which makes records available to the patient. Like Google Health, PassportMD takes digital records and passes them on to consumers over the Internet. PassportMD was one of four companies selected to provide access to electronic personal health records for Medicare beneficiaries in a pilot program in Utah and Arizona.
